Monday 26th January Update

Community Update – Village Hall and Parish Council.

A well-attended community meeting was held in the village hall on 21st January, with around 70 residents present. At the meeting, the Parish Council explained its decision to stop funding and managing the village hall.

Residents expressed strong concern about the future viability of the hall and made it clear that they would support continued funding through the parish precept, which all households contribute to via council tax.

Ward Councillors Samantha Christon-Whyte and John Holtby were also in attendance and both confirmed their commitment to working with the community to ensure the hall does not close.

Following the meeting, a group of residents—supported by Councillor Christon-Whyte—have begun the process of applying to add the village hall to East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Community Asset Register.

This would help protect the hall’s long-term future. The group is also exploring the creation of a new Village Hall Management Committee to take responsibility for running the hall going forward.

Continued financial support through the parish precept will be an important part of securing the hall’s sustainability.

Since the meeting, all members of the Parish Council have resigned.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is now working with the community to appoint new Parish Councillors.

Saturday 17th January 2026

A kickoff meeting was held at short notice at the village hall and was extremely well attended, particularly given that it was organised within just 24 hours. Around 30 residents came along, and a great deal of valuable information was shared, including background on the history of the village hall committee.

Engagement has already been very strong, with many local residents asking how they can get involved. We will be providing a further update within the next day or so, including details on how you can support our campaign to save the village hall—our much-loved community hub.
