Long Riston Playing Fields Committee Receives £17,768 Boost Towards New MUGA
The Long Riston Playing Fields Committee is delighted to announce another major milestone in its campaign to replace the village's ageing Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).
Following a successful application to the Sandsfield Community Fund, the Committee has received a net grant of £17,768 towards the project.
The original grant award was £20,000. As part of the funding conditions, the charity was required to make a Contributory Third Party (CTP) payment of £2,232, resulting in a net contribution of £17,768 towards the replacement project.
This latest funding means the charity has now raised £59,698 towards its overall target of £69,000—an incredible 86% of the funding required.
The replacement MUGA will provide a modern, safe facility for football, basketball, tennis and general recreation. Used daily by Long Riston Primary School, local sports clubs and residents of all ages, it is one of the village's most valued community assets.
Chair Steve Turner said:
"This is fantastic news for the village and we're incredibly grateful to the Sandsfield Community Fund for their support. Every grant we've received has brought us another step closer to securing the future of this much-loved facility.
Reaching almost 86% of our target is a tremendous achievement and reflects the generosity of grant funders, local organisations, businesses and residents who have supported the project."
Since launching the appeal, the Committee has secured support from 20 separate funders and donors, demonstrating the confidence that charities, grant-making organisations, local businesses and the wider community have in the project. The response has been overwhelming and is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together behind a shared goal.
As a volunteer-led charity, the Committee manages and maintains the village's playing fields, football pitches, tennis courts, pavilion, play areas and MUGA entirely through fundraising, grants and the dedication of local volunteers. The facilities are available for everyone to enjoy and support healthy lifestyles through play and sport.
Although significant progress has been made, £9,302 still needs to be raised before the replacement project can begin.
Steve Turner added:
"As a volunteer-led charity, we are incredibly proud of what has been achieved. Raising almost £60,000 from 20 supporters has taken a huge amount of work, but it also shows the value people place on these facilities. We'd like to thank every funder, every donor and every resident who has helped us reach this point. We're now within touching distance of making this project a reality for future generations."
The Committee would like to thank every organisation, business and individual who has contributed so far. Together, they have helped bring the project within touching distance of completion, ensuring that future generations will continue to benefit from first-class sporting and recreational facilities in Long Riston.
